The Old School

The St. Wenceslaus 1870 Old School has been a fixture in Spillville for over 134 years. The school is the oldest Czech parochial school in America.   The school also served as a residence for a distinguished pioneer educator (J. J. Kovarik and his family).  It was used for over 75 years as home for teaching nuns that served in the parish.  It was used as a boarding house for rural students, a place of worship and in later years as a community hall and residence.  It is also home to Antonin Dvorak's Opus 96: "Quartet in F Major" and Opus 97: "Quintet in E Flat Major.
